Digital Learning Week events in October

Digital Learning at UT is again hosting Digital Learning Week from October 14–18. Throughout the week, they are hosting a series of events, panels, presentations, and an open house, all designed to both celebrate UT’s existing successes in online education, as well as highlight the ways Digital Learning can support academic units in this work. Below please find a listing of featured events. 

Tuesday, October 15

Faculty Recognition

11:30am–1:00pm, Student Union 362C

Digital Learning Week starts with a recognition event to celebrate those within UT’s instructional community making UT a destination for flexible learning opportunities that welcome adult online learners. Celebrate with your colleagues as we showcase their accomplishments in course design and online teaching and learning (Space is limited. RSVP will be closed once capacity is reached).

Wednesday, October 16

Grad Student and PostDoc Panel on Digital Learning

9:30–10:30am, Toyota Ballroom in the Baker Center

Digital Learning invites all UT graduate students and postdocs to the Panel for Graduate Students and Postdocs. This event provides an opportunity to share information about the support our office offers graduate students and postdoctoral scholars, including our 6-week seminar in online teaching offered each spring. Hear from those who participated in the series and learn how their experience has helped them build confidence in online course development, develop foundational skills in delivering online courses, and improve their professional development as instructors/educators. Coffee and pastries will be provided.

AI in Practice: ChatGPT in Academic and Professional Roles

Noon–1 pm. Zoom

Join us for a hands-on session where we will explore how artificial intelligence can be integrated into our everyday lives as instructors. Our speakers will share practical instances of AI enhancing their daily routines and tasks. Learn about various use cases that demonstrate the versatility and impact of AI technology on learning.

Multimedia Studio Open House

3:30–5:30 pm, Digital Learning Multimedia Studio, 2309 Kingston Pike

Opened in late 2022, Digital Learning’s multimedia studio hosts a wide range of technologies to support faculty in developing online course materials, including lecture capture rooms, 360-degree cameras, 3D scanners, and augmented and virtual reality. Visit the studio to see demonstrations and receive consulting for future courses from Digital Learning’s instructional design, video production, and interactive development teams.

Supporting Online Instructors with UT’s Quality Assurance Tools

10–11 am, Zoom

Are you looking for opportunities to enhance the quality of your online course or provide colleagues with valuable feedback? Digital Learning has created a suite of tools to support instructors who design and teach online classes, including the Engaged Online Course (EOC) rubric, the EOC self-evaluation checklist, and our new Asynchronous Teaching Observation and Feedback tool. Join us to learn more about the research-based standards underpinning these resources and how they can be used to promote quality and student success.

Who is the UT Online Learner?

2:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m., Zoom

In Fall 2024, UT reached a new enrollment milestone, with more than 3,000 students enrolled in UT’s fully online programs. What insights can we glean from these students? What do we know about their stories, motivations, and goals? Join Digital Learning as we share insights from recent quantitative and qualitative studies on our online student population, providing us with rich detail that can further our collective strategies to support adult learners.
