Grad Vol 101
The Graduate School is excited to provide an onboarding experience that is entirely online and asynchronous. Incoming graduate students will have the opportunity to engage with that onboarding experience at their own time and on their own schedule.
These modules are designed to get you familiar with the UT experience, whether you are joining us online or on campus. There are modules on the Vol essentials (VolCard, VolShop, parking), on academics (Canvas, the Judith Anderson Herbert Writing Center, the UT Libraries), on student success (mentoring, CliftonStrengths, career development), on student life (dining, events, recreation), on UT policies (academic integrity, FERPA), and health, safety, and wellness (student health center, UT public safety).
To get started, select Get Started with Grad Vol 101. From the login screen use the student login to access MyUTK where you will be transferred to the onboarding platform. Once you select Grad Vol 101 you’re good to go! You can start and stop at any time; the system will remember where you left off.

For anyone who will be starting fall 2026 as a graduate teaching assistant or associate, we will be offering a New Graduate Teaching Assistant/Associate Orientation on August 13. This will be a virtual session taking place from 9am-noon on that day.
Looking for more ways to celebrate the start of fall 2026?
There are many Big Orange Welcome events going on this month, including the Graduate Student and Post-Doc Community Fair, Torch Night, and many others. Knoxville is also a great place to celebrate the arts, the outdoors, and local history.
Graduate Student and Postdoc Community Fair
On August 7, from 11am-1pm in the atrium of Strong Hall, units from across campus will gather visit with incoming graduate students and postdocs. They are there to welcome you, answer your questions, and maybe give you a little more Vol swag! Find out more about the fair and how to find parking.
