The Research Impact & Open Access unit seeks an enthusiastic and collaborative graduate student to join their team. The Scholarly Communication Graduate Research Assistant will have the opportunity to gain experience supporting the unit in assessing, promoting, and delivering services related to research impact, open access and scholarly publishing.

This position is a 12 month appointment at 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday, during the hours of 8:00a.m. and 4:30p.m., with stipend and tuition waiver starting in spring 2025. Additional details about benefits can be found in the Policy for the Administration of Graduate Assistantships.
Responsibilities & Duties
The responsibilities and duties of this position are to:
- collaborate with library staff in developing assessment projects aimed at improving library services;
- develop surveys, questionnaires, card sorting, and other tools for evaluating user satisfaction, assessing web resources, and messaging;
- conduct and analyze literature reviews and other data sources to benchmark the program against library trends;
- collaborate to answer questions and update web resources and LibGuides related to research impact, copyright, intellectual property, publishing models, scholarly visibility, and related topics;
- assist in developing outreach materials and at engagement events;
- assist in compiling information for internal newsletters;
- maintain documentation and training materials;
- participate in meetings, programs, and events at the library and campus levels;
- contribute to the continued success of the V.O.L. Journals program, TRACE, and other related projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Qualified candidates must:
- be a graduate student at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in information sciences or a related program
- have excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- have a strong customer service ethic
- have the ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- be comfortable working with computers and various software programs
- have a willingness to learn new topics and software
Preferred Qualifications
In addition preferred candidates will have:
- experience in customer service
- interest in research impact, open access, scholarly publishing and/or assessment
