Bikash Bogati, a PhD candidate in the Department of Microbiology, was recently featured in Science in the Working Life section. Bogati submitted a personal essay in which he reflects on his volunteer experience and how it has helped him through his program.
Having grown up in a bucolic village in Nepal, where everyone knew one another and his grandparents were always close by, Bogati thought serving senior citizens in his new hometown might be just what he needed when looking for local volunteering opportunities. Bogati found a local organization that drives people to stores, appointments, and religious services that was looking for volunteers.
