Graduate Student Senate Travel Awards Deadlines
If you’re a graduate student planning to travel to a professional meeting in fall 2018, you may want to consider applying for a Graduate Student Senate Travel Award. These awards, distributed three times a year, are made on the basis of both need and merit, and allow for partial reimbursement of transportation, lodging, and conference expenses. For travel between September 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018, the deadline to apply is August 27. You can get more information about the awards and apply at the Graduate Student Senate website.
Graduate Student Senate Travel Awards Application Open on Thursday for Summer
The Graduate Student Senate will be opening the online GSS Travel Awards application on Thursday, March 1st for the summer 2018 travel round. The deadlines are April 2nd (College of Arts and Sciences) and April 9th (all other colleges). They will be hosting a workshop on the 8th of March, where they will walk through the application process. The workshop takes place from 5:30–7:00 p.m. in Haslam 113. Pizza and drinks will be provided!
Nuclear Engineering Graduate Students Travel to Switzerland
Angela Simone and Michael Moore, graduate students in nuclear engineering, traveled to the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in Villingen, Switzerland, in August. They are working on development of a glass, scintillator-based, ultra-high resolution neutron detector for beam lines. Both work with Associate Profesor and UCOR Fellow Jason Hayward in the Rad IDEAS group, which researches Radiation Imaging, DEtectors, Algorithms and Systems. Learn more about the Rad IDEAS group.
Graduate Student Summer Travel Grants Available
Graduate students working on their dissertations in humanities fields can now apply for summer travel fellowships through a new program offered by the UT Humanities Center. The fellowships help UT graduate students travel to library and museum archives in order to examine ancient manuscripts, read through court records or an author’s personal papers, or listen to one-of-a-kind audio recordings related to a historical event. A limited number of fellowships of up to $1,400 are available for summer 2017 to PhD students at the dissertation stage of their degree program. For more information, email the UT Humanities Center.
SACNAS 2017 Conference Travel Scholarships
The Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) will be hosting its 2017 conference in Salt Lake City, UT from October 19-21. This is the largest diversity in STEM conference in the United States, and the organizers are planning “three days of cutting-edge science, training, mentoring, and cultural activities for scientists at all levels and disciplines.” They offer travel scholarships to attend the conference, and applications will be open from March 14&endash;April 14. Architecture and Design Graduate Student Travels to Three Continents
