Course on Tackling the Job Market

Preparing for the job market can be tricky. ENGL 690 provides students with practical tools to craft compelling and competitive job portfolios. By exploring topics that include insider tips and techniques for tackling the job market, you will leave this course well-equipped to develop and write a series of documents, interview using your authentic voice, and create a professional digital platform.

ENGL 690 will function as a workshop course where you will receive coaching sessions from scholars in different/adjacent concentrations. You will partake in research-based writing in the context of (non) academic disciplines, emphasizing analytical and persuasive writing skills for university, professional, and civic careers.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Craft competitive job market documents by applying research-based scholarship specific to your field (e.g., CV/resume, impactful personal statements, professional biographies, diversity statements, teaching philosophies, mentor statements, administrative statements, etc.).
  • Create a professional digital platform.
  • Successfully navigate interviews (first, second, and campus visits).
