Yesterday afternoon, as part of Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week, twelve graduate students competed in the 2019 UT Three Minute Thesis Final Competition. Our judges, Jimmy G. Cheek, Distinguished Professor and Chancellor Emeritus; Catherine A. Luther, Professor and Director of the School of Journalism and Electronic Media; and Avice Reid, Senior Director of Community Relations for the City of Knoxville, had the difficult task of choosing just three winners from an extremely talented set of competitors.

2019 3MT Final Competition Winners: Amanda Lee (3rd), Caroline Billings (1st), Jamarcus Bradford (2nd)

Third place was awarded to Amanda Lee, a PhD candidate in Animal Science in the Herbert College of Agriculture, for her presentation “How Many Cows Can One Robot Handle?” Second place was awarded to Jamarcus Bradford, a JD candidate in the College of Law, for his presentation”Stop Snitching: The Flaws Embedded Within in the Informant Institution That Heavily Contribute to Wrongful Convictions.” And first place was awarded to Caroline Billings, a DVM-PhD candidate in the College of Veterinary Medicine, for her presentation “Bone Generation—The Future of Fracture Repair.”

The Master of Ceremonies for the event was Ragan Schriver, Director of the MSSW Program in the College of Social Work. Beyond providing information about the competition and announcing the competitors, Schriver also facilitated a lively Q&A with the presenters and a very engaged audience.

The Graduate School appreciates all the competitors, who did a fantastic job, and the faculty, staff and students who took the time to come out to this event.
