Graduate Teaching Assistantship in CEHHS

The College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences is seeking a graduate teaching assistant to support undergraduate advising, work with first-year experience initiatives, and assist with orientation, recruitment, and commencement events. This is a full-time graduate assistantship (20 hours a week) and includes a 12-month appointment with a salary of $28,696. The position would start summer 2025.

General Responsibilities

This position will have the following responsibilities:

  • meeting, responding to, and monitoring advising of approximately 80 students (not to exceed 100) per semester
  • replying to student e-mails and retention outreach efforts (withdrawal reports, promoted check-ins, uTrack, file review)
  • assisting with the coordination of the College’s Vol First-Year Experience Initiatives and Living and Learning Community (LLC)
  • participating in welcome week for all incoming freshman students
  • participating in First-year and Transfer Orientation
  • assisting with Spring Commencement and weekend Admission recruitment events (Big Orange Preview, Jump, Come See Tn). 

Job Requirements/Qualifications

The successful candidate should display the following:

  • positive attitude and sincere desire to provide academic support to students in need as well as to provide university information to parents, faculty, staff, and other constituents
  • excellent oral and written communication skills, including attention to detail, accuracy, and presentation skills
  • ability to relate to and effectively establish rapport with a diverse undergraduate population
  • professional demeanor and maturity indicative of a leadership position demonstrating the ability to function as a staff member of a university department
  • flexibility in scheduling work hours
  • proficiency with MS Office applications, especially Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • willingness to develop a strong working knowledge of UT policy and procedure and campus resources
  • ability to work well with supervisors, colleagues, students, and the university community
  • preferred undergraduate experience in providing course-based academic support and/or leadership role
