Guests at the Graduate Hooding Ceremony

The Graduate School welcomes guests of graduates to the Graduate Hooding Ceremony. We’re glad to have you share in the celebration.

Guests will enter through Gates B, C, D, and E on the concourse level. No guests will be allowed to enter at the graduate entrance.

Thompson-Boling Arena’s clear bag policy will be in effect. Walk-through metal detectors will be in place and operational at all arena entrances. Please allow additional time for entry. Please make sure to tell your guests. The Commencement site has more specific information about security.

Guests may bring in flowers for their graduate; but no wrapped gifts, balloons, or signs are permitted. UT has partnered with the Commencement Group to offer flower sales on site. Preordering flowers is strongly recommended.

One concession stand will be open, and no outside food or drinks will be permitted in the arena.

Seating will not be assigned, so please ask your guests to leave the top few rows open for those with limited mobility. There are wheelchair spaces on the concourse level that should only be occupied by a wheelchair and one companion per party to leave space for others.

Students whose parents and family are applying for visas to enter the U.S. to
attend the Graduate Hooding Ceremony should submit this request for a letter to use when applying for the visa. This form should be submitted at least 48 hours before the date at which the letter is needed.

Interpreter Services

Sign language interpreters (using American Sign Language) will be projected on large screens during the entire Graduate Hooding Ceremony.

As a courtesy to all in attendance, please refrain from advancing to the front of the stage to take photos as graduates are walking across. A professional photographer will be taking photos as graduates shake hands with the dean on stage. After the ceremony, the stage will be available for additional graduate and guest photo opportunities.
