At the present time, the Graduate Hooding Ceremony will not take place. However, the Commencement 2020 ceremonies are designed to provide a safe, in-person way for graduates to be recognized for their achievement.
The Graduate School encourages faculty to attend the hooding ceremony to show their support for the achievements of their students.
Faculty who have been invited by their doctoral candidate to act as their hooder during the ceremony should arrive in their academic regalia no later than one hour prior to the start of the ceremony. Upon arrival, both the doctoral candidate and their hooder should proceed to the Ray Mears Room in Thompson-Boling Arena, where they will meet up and remain until processing to the stage arena.
Directional signs will be posted in numerous areas around the arena prior to the start of the ceremony. After the stage party and non-hooding faculty have been seated. Hooding Faculty will process in with their doctoral candidate and be seated by college.
Faculty wishing to participate in the Graduate Hooding Ceremony but are not hooding a doctoral candidate should plan to arrive no later than one hour prior to the start time of the ceremony. Please arrive in academic regalia and proceed to the media room (next to the East Entrance door). Graduate School staff will be present to assist and position faculty in the academic processional. Supporting faculty will process in behind the stage party and be seated in front of the master’s candidates.
Those who have been invited to participate as part of the stage party should arrive no later than one hour prior to the start time and proceed to Room 132 (across from Ray Mears Room).
