As face-to-face events at UT have been canceled, the Graduate School has had to make alterations in events that we organize.
Graduate Hooding Ceremony
We may not be able to celebrate our graduates at an in-person ceremony for spring 2020, but UT wants to make sure to recognize their achievements. UT is working with a company called Marching Order to create slides honoring each spring 2020 graduate.
Watch Chancellor Plowman’s announcement of plans to celebrate our graduates.
On May 7 at 7:00pm, you can visit commencement.utk.edu for a link to our virtual celebration. Please share on social media with #UTGrad2020 tonight. We’d love to see graduation pictures, family celebrations and words of encouragement!
We know that these experiences are not a replacement for the traditional hooding experience and we don’t want them to be. UT plans to find a way to allow spring 2020 graduates to have the opportunity to celebrate in-person. We’ll share more information as soon as we can. Until then, the Graduate School is proud of the achievements of our graduate and professional students and we look forward celebrating with them in person.
Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week
Every spring, the Graduate School, in coordination with national efforts, has dedicated a week to celebrate our graduate and professional students and the work they do. We recognize that these students are a critical and valued part of the UT community. This week is known as Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week, or GPSAW.
Since face-to-face gatherings have been canceled, and the university strongly encourages social distancing, the Graduate School and its partners worked to transition events to an online format and to restructure plans to accommodate the current conditions. GPSAW moved forward from March 30-April 3, and everyone is encouraged to visit the Graduate School’s GPSAW page for a calendar and all the details.
