Hunter Hammock serves as the Graduate Student Senate (GSS) Program Coordinator within the Graduate School, where he supports student leadership, advocacy, and governance across UT’s advanced-degree community.

A three-time Volunteer, he earned his doctorate in plant, soil, and environmental sciences through the Herbert College of Agriculture at UT. In his current role, Hammock facilitates senate operations, supports student-led initiatives, fosters professional development and mentorship, and connects emerging leaders with the campus partners that help their work take root. As a co-founder/advisor for UT’s chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success, and former Leadership Knoxville Scholar, he has spent more than a decade investing in student growth and organizational development on Rocky Top.

During graduate school, Hammock answered the call to serve as GSS President — an experience that makes his present work deeply meaningful. His mission is to cultivate the next generation of leaders who will shape their fields and strengthen their communities. He mentors and advises some of UT’s most motivated campus leaders, equipping them to become thoughtful advocates and influential voices in their disciplines, professions, and communities.
