In fall 2022, the Department of English will be offering English 122 (CRN 48434), which will meet on Wednesdays and Fridays, 3:00–3:50pm. There may be possible flexible or hybrid options to fit your schedule. This course will address many topics over the course of the semester.

- Participants will network with fellow UT graduate students from other disciplines and backgrounds. They will learn with and from each other.
- Receiving Expert Feedback on Current Writing Projects
- Participants will receive compassionate, timely, and critical-minded one-on-one feedback from an expert on academic and research writing.
- Learning Academic Genre and Discipline-Specific Writing Conventions
- Participants will become familiar with reader expectations for research articles and other academic genres across disciplines and within their own.
- Improving the Writing Process
- Participants will learn effective ways to manage constraints on time, energy and motivation. They will learn the signs of writer’s block and how to overcome it.
- Using Rhetorical Thinking to Make Smart Choices
- Participants will recognize how to position themselves through writing and how to adapt to different audiences, purposes, and situations.
- Developing Language Skills and Confidence
- Participants will practice expressing their ideas clearly, concisely, and compellingly. They will learn editing techniques and tools.
