GRA Position in Plant Sciences

The Department of Plant Sciences is seeking an MS or PhD student for a graduate research assistantship in the area of sustainable nursery irrigation. The GRA in this position will work with their major professor to develop a comprehensive research project on an aspect of sustainable nursery irrigation.

Responsibilities include:

  • designing and executing experiments
  • analyzing data and interpreting results
  • preparing manuscripts for publication in a peer-refereed journal
  • implementation and management of experimental field, greenhouse, and/or laboratory research

Physical activity, including some lifting and working in extreme temperature
environments, may be required. The successful candidate must be willing to travel across the state and nationally to present research findings to professional societies and extension groups.

Qualifications include:

  • admission to the UT Graduate School in a plant sciences graduate program
  • preference for applicants with a BS or MS degree in horticulture, plant science, agronomy, botany, ecology or other related discipline
  • strong academic record
  • high motivation and ability to work independently
  • evidence of strong writing skills or writing achievement
  • strong oral communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • training or experience with nursery production, instrumentation and data logger programming, or plant physiology research desired
