Graduate Education Week 2019

Governor Lee Proclaims Graduate Education Week Feb. 10-16

In recognition of the contributions that graduate education makes to the state of Tennessee, Governor Bill Lee issued a proclamation that February 10 through February 16, 2019 be designated as Graduate Education Week. Among the reasons for this proclamation, stated by Governor Lee, are:

  • The economic impact of the over 8,500 graduate degrees issued by Tennessee universities annually
  • The influence of graduate students and graduate education in attracting new businesses and creative ideas to Tennessee
  • The contributions made by research engaged in by graduate faculty
  • The leadership roles occupied by alumni from Tennessee graduate schools
  • The recognition of the strengths of a culturally diverse student body, which has had the result of attracting students from diverse backgrounds interested in pursuing graduate education

UT continues to play a strong role in advancing graduate education. The 2019 graduate school rankings in U.S. News and World Report placed three of our colleges (Haslam College of Business, the College of Social Work, and Tickle College of Engineering) in the top 30 among public institutions. Three graduate disciplines (nuclear engineering, supply chain management, and the College of Law’s clinical training program) are ranked among the top 10 among public institutions, and among the top 20 for all institutions.

There are over 6,000 graduate and professional students currently enrolled at UT. They are students, researchers, and teachers. Their work has impacts not only in the state of Tennessee, but across the nation, and around the world. Please join the Graduate School in observing this week and recognizing the critical role that graduate education plays in UT’s mission.
