Best Practices in Writing Instruction Lunchtime Workshop Series

The Writing Center is launching a “Best Practices in Writing Instruction” lunchtime workshop series to support instructors in any discipline who assign writing in their courses. Any GTA, lecturer, or professorial faculty member in any department is invited to take advantage of these workshops, especially those teaching General Education “WC” (writing-intensive) courses.

  • Writing Assignment Design: Wed., Feb. 6, 11:30-1:00, Student Union 362A
  • Teaching ESL Writers: Wed., Feb. 20, 11:30-1:00, Student Union 262A
  • Responding to Student Writing: Wed. March 13, 11:30-1:00, Student Union 362A

Participation and Commitment

  • You may request to participate in one, two, or all three sessions. These “working lunch” sessions will be interactive; participants will engage in collaborative activities with other instructors from across campus and should finish each workshop with new strategies for approaching writing instruction.
  • Participants will be expected to share the instructional materials they develop with the Writing Center, to be posted on the Writing Center’s website for the benefit of other faculty.

Incentives for Participating

  • Lunch will be provided.
  • The Writing Center is offering a $250 stipend to participants who share the instructional materials they develop through the workshop(s) (and optional post-workshop consultation with the Writing Center). Materials will be due at the end of the semester. (One stipend per participant.)

Submit a Request to Participate

Request to participate in one or more workshops at https://tinyurl.com/teachwrite by January 30. Each workshop is limited to 20 participants. You will receive an email on January 31 to indicate whether there is an available spot for you in the workshop(s) you selected.
