The Graduate School is pleased to have one of UT’s students serve as soloist during the Fall 2018 Graduate Hooding Ceremony. Soloists perform the National Anthem and to lead the gathered graduates and their friends and family in the Alma Mater. There is a lot of talent here at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and the soloist for the upcoming ceremony is certainly no exception.

A soprano from Knoxville, Hannah Amelia Brown will graduate from UT this December with degrees in music education and vocal performance. She studies with Marjorie Bennett Stephens. Hannah has competed and placed in various local and regional vocal competitions, including regional and national rounds of the National Association of Teachers of Singing competition.

During her time at UT, she has participated in VolOpera and the University of Tennessee Opera Theatre program, performing both on the stage and off through stage management. She has also enjoyed being involved in community theatre with companies in the Knoxville area. Some of her undergraduate roles include the Baker’s Wife in Into the Woods, Hope Harcourt in Anything Goes, Mabel in Pirates of Penzance, and Cosette in Les Misérables. Hannah is a proud member of the University of Tennessee Chamber Singers and the Sequoyah Hills Chancel Choir. Additionally, Hannah spent three years as a UT School of Music student ambassador, assisting potential students as they transition into college.

Hannah has been honored to student teach under Mrs. Jean Burkhart at Seymour High School and Mrs. Lisa Bitzas at Seymour Junior High School this semester, and learn from the incredibly talented students in their music programs. After graduation, Hannah plans to attend graduate school to obtain her master’s degree in choral conducting.
