New Graduate Student Orientation Today

The Fall 2018 New Graduate Student Orientation took place today and we had a record number of new graduate students registered for the event. After an inspiring welcome from the Dean of the Graduate School, Dixie L. Thompson; Interim Chancellor Wayne Davis; Ernest L. Brothers, Associate Dean of the Graduate School; and Cara Sulyok the President of the Graduate Student Senate, participants broke off into various breakout sessions.

These breakout sessions covered topics such as funding and financial aid, student health insurance, professional development, the UT Libraries, OIT, health and wellness, Title IX, equity and diversity, and student conduct. Speakers from units across campus donated their time to provide these sessions.

We wrapped up the orientation with a panel discussion where new graduate students could ask questions directly to experienced graduate students. Our panel of experienced graduate students fielded questions on parking, topics of dissertations, work/life balance, how to get around UT and Knoxville, and other issues that those who have been there already could help with.

After the wrap-up, participants were invited to go by the information tables to talk directly with units and organizations both on campus and in Knoxville.

Welcome to UT! We’re glad you’re here, and we look forward to working with you. Be sure to let us know if we can help.
