One-on-One Mentoring for Women in STEM

The Mentoring and WiSTAR3 committees of Pipeline are initiating a one-on-one mentoring program that aims to pair graduate students up with postdocs, faculty or staff mentors. As a mentee, this would be your opportunity to get guidance and support from an experienced member of the academic community, as well as expand your professional network and develop a sense of community with fellow women in STEM at UT. If you are already a part of their group mentoring program, feel free to participate in both!

The program is designed so each mentor is paired with 1–2 mentees based on mutual academic and personal interests. Each mentee should be able to commit to participating throughout the rest of the 2017–2018 academic year. While it will be up to each mentor-mentee pair to make decisions about the frequency of their meetings, Pipeline encourages each pair to meet at least once per month throughout the academic year.

To launch this program, there will be a social event, which will provide an opportunity for mentees to meet with potential mentors and enjoy light food and refreshments. This “speed networking” event will be held at Jig and Reel Whisky Bar (101 S. Central St, Knoxville, TN 37902) on Tuesday, November 7th at 7 p.m. Attendance to this event is encouraged but not required to participate in the program.

This being the first one-on-one mentoring program for graduate students, only the first fifteen mentees to sign-up will be matched this semester, so make sure to sign up today! If you are interested in participating, please register for the program here. More information on the one-on-one mentoring program can be found on the Pipeline website.
