If you are a graduate student and you will be graduating spring 2017, there are some things you should know about your access to health services. If you have a 25% assistantship for which you will continue to work over the summer, meaning that you will be on payroll for June and July, you will continue to be enrolled in the student health insurance program. If your assistantship ends in May, your insurance will likely terminate on May 31st (the last day of the month in which you work).
But, once you graduate, you will no longer have access to the Student Health Center after the last day of the semester (May 9th), regardless of whether or not you are enrolled in the student health insurance program over the summer. Your insurance will still cover you to see outside providers, but there is no requirement for a referral. You may have to contact United Healthcare (www.uhcsr.com) to let them know that you have graduated and no longer have access to the Student Health Center for referrals. You will also be subject to insurance requirements such as deductible, co-pay, and co-insurance when seeing outside providers.
If you are not graduating, but will be returning in fall 2017, you can pay the UT Programs & Services Student Health Fee and access the Student Health Center, but this does not apply to graduating students.
