Outreach and Recruitment Coordinator

Sonja R. Jackson currently serves as the Outreach and Recruitment Coordinator for the Graduate School. She is responsible for many of the day-to-day outreach and recruitment events. In her role, she will be collaborating with the graduate academic departments, and developing new strategies for growing the overall number of applications, as well as diversifying the graduate/professional student applicant pool. She will be assisting with support services to student groups with the intention of creating a more inclusive student experience.

Jackson’s twenty-five years of work experience in higher education entails a variety of areas: access and success for underrepresented students, enrollment management consulting, mentoring and advising, academic support/advising for student athletes, served as a Principle Investigator on a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Accelerated Academic Success Program (AASP) Grant worth $450,000, and both undergraduate/graduate admissions and recruitment.

Jackson is a native of Morristown, Tennessee. She earned all three degrees from East Tennessee State University in the following areas: Bachelor of Business Administration in Banking & Finance, Master of City Management, and an EdD in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis (Post-Secondary and Private Sector). Dissertation topic: A Study of the Rita Sanders Geier Case: Effects to Desegregate Three State Universities in Tennessee from 1990-2006.

During her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, softball, traveling, and attending sporting events.
