I'm a tenure-track Assistant Professor, and my department expects me to serve as major professor for doctoral students. How do I gain approval to direct doctoral dissertations?
Discuss your request with the department head and ask that she/he submit a request to the Credentials Committee for your approval to direct dissertations until tenure decision. See #1 in Bylaws.
