Extraordinary Graduate Student Teaching
Information about Chancellor's Honors is available online.
http://chancellor.utk.edu/honorsbanquet/citations.shtml
You can help the University recognize deserving graduate students by nominating persons of extraordinary teaching accomplishment for awards. Truly extraordinary teaching is the standard of selection for these University of Tennessee Citations.
Nomination Process
To nominate a graduate teaching assistant/associate for the awards, please complete the nominating statement, attach a resume and a detailed description of the individual accomplishments to assure the nomination receives proper consideration. A copy of a person's resume alone is not a sufficient nomination, although it can give helpful information to a selection committee.
Extraordinary Graduate Student Teaching
These are awarded to graduate students for extraordinary performance in teaching. Persons wishing to nominate students for this award should submit their nominations to the Associate Dean of the Graduate School by February 15, 2008.
For more information, please see the Chancellor's website:
http://chancellor.utk.edu/honorsbanquet/citations.shtml
Sincerely,
The Graduate School

Graduate Student Nominations to Attend the Meeting of Nobel Laureates
You are invited to nominate a graduate student to attend the 2008 Meeting of Nobel Laureates in Lindau, Germany on June 29-July 4, 2008!
Recently the President/Chancellor may have received a letter from the Office of Science, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Science Foundation (NSF), announcing an opportunity to nominate two students to attend the 2008 Meeting of Nobel Laureates in Lindau, Germany. Each year DOE and NSF sponsor graduate students to attend the meeting. This year ORAU will sponsor an additional group of students to participate in the meeting along with the student delegation sponsored by DOE and NSF. As an ORAU Sponsoring Institution, you are invited to make an additional nomination directly to ORAU for this program. This program is operated by DOE's Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, which is managed by ORAU. Additional information may be found at www.orau.org/lindau.
Transportation, lodging and registration expenses are arranged and will be paid for by ORAU. Participants will meet in Washington, D.C., for an orientation meeting and travel as a group to Germany. During the meeting, the Laureates lecture on the topics of their choice related to physics in the mornings and participate in less formal small group discussions with the students in the afternoons and some evenings. In addition to this valuable interaction, the participants enjoy the picturesque island city of Lindau, which is located at the eastern end of Lake Constance, just north of the Swiss Alps. Located at the common border of Austria, Germany, and Switzerland, the medieval city is rich in central European culture.
Please note that the eligibility criteria for the ORAU program is slightly different than for the DOE and NSF sponsored program; ORAU will accept nominations for students participating in research programs supported by DOE, NSF or other federal agencies. Applications for the ORAU program will be accepted until January 11, 2008. The meeting website will be reset to accept applications from ORAU members until January 11, 2008. A nomination form is attached. You may submit the nomination package by as a single pdf file by email (sam.held@orau.org), upload the nomination through the U.S. delegation's website at www.orau.org/lindau, or by overnight delivery to the address on the nomination form.
To be eligible, students must have completed (by September 2008) two years, but not more than three years, toward a doctoral degree in physics or a related discipline; be a U.S. citizen; and be currently enrolled at a university as a full-time graduate student. They must be participating in a research project funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, National Science Foundation or other federal agency. We share DOE's interest in receiving nominations from a diverse group of students, including women and minorities.
All nominations must be received by 4:00 pm on Friday, January 11, 2008. Students selected for this program will be notified by March 15, 2008. If you have any questions or need further information, please contact Monnie Champion at 865-576-3306 or Sam Held at 865-576-2283.
Nomination forms can be found online at:

Information Resource - Estimate of Expenses for International Graduate Students
Estimate of Expenses for International Graduate Students 2007–2008
http://web.utk.edu/~globe/students/expenses-graduate.shtml
The Center for International Education has published on the web the new estimate for expenses for international graduate students. Applicants for admission for Spring 2008, Summer 2008 and Fall 2008 must provide documented evidence of financial resources to meet that estimate. This estimate of expenses is important for graduate program directors and faculty members working on admission. As departments recruit graduate students and offer graduate assistantship awards, it will be helpful to have this information to alert students about additional resources that they may need to document before visa documents can be issued.
Contact CIE for further information at 974-3177.
